Topic: Legacy
Legacy is like a fan. The tighter your grip on it the less legacy unfolds. To the other extreme the more it is stretched the more it flattens, losing the essence qualities held in its folds. One shapes like a stick, strict and pointed, the other like a cover sheet, flat but a face page. Both extremes hide a truer beauty and potential that can be held inside it.
"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings."
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Like the fan, legacy holds a root set of folds that spreads out into a fan with each fold giving it structure enabling it to catch with air and give it wings.
Legacy is about this unfolding: understanding the seeds where your roots anchor and giving them then the space to grow.
Legacy building is this process of unfolding. Many people only begin to look at legacy later in life asking what they seek in rethreading back to reconnect, to discover perhaps for the first time the deeper lessons they want to chose now to pass on as the legacy they're building and to open to the wisdom of their path as part of what they will leave behind for those that follow.
Have you begun that journey yet? Do you know where to begin? What legacy would you like to transform by way of the present or the gift you leave behind to the next generations?
