The Mundane to the Marvelous

Dear Curious,

I'm so glad you're here!

These letters are meant for you… the curious you that wanders onto a page on a quest for something though not entirely sure what that is exactly… though all the same willing to follow a hunch you have and go for a rummage around anyway.

Indeed what you might find could be worth savoring in a delicious sort of way, like sneaking a bite out of a chocolate bar when your diet-driven self isn't watching.

You might even read about something you hadn’t thought of before, or at least in that sort of way.  Perhaps you might even experience an alchemy in a way where the mundane might even turn into the marvelous.

Oh wow - setting the bar a little high there Alice, aren’t you? Gulp…(that’s me swallowing hard) adding... “Okay no promises”

You might even read about something you hadn’t thought of before, or at least in that sort of way.  Perhaps you might even experience an alchemy in a way where the mundane might even turn into the marvelous.

Infusing A Little Lightness of Being...

I decide I’d like to try anyway.  After all Monty Python got away with doing a whole movie with people on horseback without any actual horses and that worked, right?  That was pretty marvelous when you consider making any movie with a BBC budget stretches the imagination well enough but then how playfully refreshing that it all turned out to be.

That’s a marvel worth a mention indeed.

Perhaps I can try to swing by the seat of my pants too?  Perhaps infusing a little lightness of being into your day might leave you the possibility of finding yourself ready to fly a little by the seat of your pants too!

Indeed let’s begin right now, shall we?…

Let’s imagine ourselves lunging upright and forward into our own clip-itty clop (coconut shells optional) towards some galloping adventures.

Go on, I dare you!

Imagine yourself standing up right now and from where you are in your living room and stepping into the persona of a Knight on a pretend horse in search of your holy Grail.

Let yourself move around the room like you’re willing to imagine you’re one of the knights searching among the shrubbery that strangely appears out of nowhere behind your easy chair.

Let yourself examine the pattern weave of the curtains hanging from your windows as if it were the tapestry of an English medieval forest.

Imagine how you would need to suddenly duck out of sight to dodge the ominous and peculiar looking black rectangle portal hovering on your wall looking like it might suck you into it’s vortex at any minute.

Imagine you manage to escape yonder out into the wilds of what’s outside your window.

Ask yourself what do you begin to see when you are this clip-itty clopping coconut-shell clapping medieval knight trotting around in your living room on your pretend horse?

Do you begin to feel different in your body?  What is it you feel? (hint if "like an idiot" is the first thing that comes to mind ... okay be with "your idiot" - who cares this is YOUR living room).

Now ask yourself if your neighbor happens to walk by with his dog at this very moment and notices you out of the corner of his eye?

Would he gasp at his breath for a moment, squint his eyes and actually adjust to see more.

Better yet, would you be so wildly willing to even wave at him as you give another clip-itty clop trot past the window just one more time.

All for the sheer thrill of it!

Trading Your Horse for An Elephant

Now try this whole scene again only this time you’re trading your horse for an elephant.

How might your movements change around the room now and how might the view or the kind of wave you might give to the passing neighbor and what’s yonder in your the view out the window now?

Would the neighbor be quickening his pace now as he passes your window or would he mirror you and start clip-itty clopping on his pretend horse or plod along on his elephant returning your wave with a big broad grin.

What’s changing?  What’s changing about you?

And how much fun do you imagine you might have if you actually did this for a change instead of quietly folding your body back up into the easy chair and penciling your face back into a “tut tut” with a quick lip smack of dismissing disproval… oh my goodness I’d never be seen doing that.  Are you crazy?  Heavens forbid!

And I say go ahead anyway!  Try it even with the curtains closed … just to see how you might feel your body into the idea you could indulge it into feeling it was playing as a Monty Python knight - what parts of you would jump at the chance, what parts of you would try to hold you in place in that easy chair?  Would your legs twitch at the thought of skipping around the room?

Would your shoulders round inward shying away at the idea of all of this or would they open up and let your spine begin to straighten as if sitting horseback?

What you might find here might even be worth taking your own notes on.  It might make you want to laugh - a lot!  Or be curious at the least.  And I hope so.  I certainly am!

It might even nourish you for the special kind of journey you might be on because dear Seeker whatever it is for you, my guess is you didn’t imagine your journey could be embarked upon dressed as a Monty Python knight armed at best with some coconut shells and a pretend horse and that what your personal quest is might be just that bit more exciting as the epic adventure of searching for a holy Grail is precisely because your particular holy Grail is exactly that - its exciting!

And while your journey is your own unique and special one just for you and even one that only you will find the treasure in, its when you do you bring it to life for the rest of us.  Opening up to this treasure in you, to allow it unfold from within you comes easier when we can play along the way.  And yes, dressed as a knight too - try it and see for yourself!

You see that’s one of the secrets to having a wonderful life - its in play we find the wonder in life itself!

Are You Willing to Womble?

Remember The Wombles?

If you grew up watching the BBC in the 1970s on afternoons after school you certainly will as it was a staple in the line up of children’s TV back then.  If you didn’t The Wombles of Wimbledon were these tiny mole-like furry long nosed creatures that wandered the commons in search of things the big people discarded, threw away or lost.  In stop-motion animation, these creatures would womble their way across the screen the way children move the legs of their favorite Teddy bears pretending they can walk.  These Wombles would move from right to left, right to left with their little fury bodies and find their way back to their warren underground and decorate their tunnels and little secret places with newspapers and miniature souvenirs, getting into all sorts of mischief along the way.

...more about tumbles into exploring consciousness in ways that might surprise you as mundanely simple and yet marvelously magical.

Being the daughter of an architect I spent hours contemplating how they scaled large human items to fit into their tiny warren but that’s another story… What I loved most was their “excavating”, their adventures into the very ordinary, the “commons”. They created an alternative world from what went unnoticed, undervalued and overlooked.  As a child and even now in mid-life The Wombles were the ultimate seekers in they showed me how to look at something to find the marvelous in the mundane.

And so dear Seeker that’s what I’m inviting into these letters here with you.

I’m inviting you into a journey from the mundane into the marvelous.

It won’t all be recycling your newspapers and making good out of bad rubbish.  Most of my letters to you will be less about Wombles and more about tumbles into exploring consciousness in ways that might surprise you as mundanely simple and yet marvelously magical.  Indeed you’ll find more gateways into these explorations in my my oeuvre as an artist too.  More on that on neighboring pages of my website.

I’ll be excavating to find truth, to explore the frames in which we define our worlds, to readjust the lens to find new focus so you begin to see the magic in yourself.

As for our destination?

It is to arrive into new layers of consciousness defining ourselves into a new clarity AND most of all I will be exploring the expansion into the sensual savoring that life when lived more deeply and intimately can bring you a new level of experiencing just how marvelous it really is to be here, to be part of creating and evolving into the new and the new of you, of me, of us as a collective and what it is to be a human being on this great planet of ours in the vastness of a Universe we have the opportunity to become more intimate with in becoming more intimate with ourselves.

Exploring consciousness in these letters feels like a clip-itty clop ride to arrive and sit with you on a flying carpet with you.  I have no idea where it will take us and yet I can’t wait for us to fly!

Who am I as your guide?

Writers as artists are a special kind of journey seeker in that we love to write and create art about what we find, what we discover, and what we uncover in our walking through life.  It is about seeing the unseen layers, that were there all the time waiting for us to find them, and in this way to find ourselves.

I am that child drawing on the furniture, leaning my whole body into a crayon so I could get the colors as vivid on the page as I was experiencing them; the child forever pulled out to the wall or sent to the corner for talking, always too excited to share, and the quiet child awe struck in the tallness of the grass blades and the way the trees move, the child nicknamed “saucer eyes” seeing it all perched from a first floor window to the world and as she write goes clip-itty clop there at the window with you now, front row, ticket in hand, flopping cross legged on the carpet ready to ride together into what ever these adventures in these letters will bring.

Tell me. Message me and introduce yourself! Who is at the core of you?

If you don’t know, well that’s okay too.  These letters are to help you find your Holy Grail - you.

Who are you?

Tell me. Message me and introduce yourself! Who is at the core of you?

If you don’t know, well that’s okay too.  These letters are to help you find your Holy Grail - you.

So I hope you’ll womble back here for a visit or two and maybe even sign up to have these letters sent to you to read with your next cup of tea or coffee.  Have it with a biscuit or your favorite cookie, or even read it with a sip of your favorite Kombucha.  And then take a seat on the carpet beside me and see where together we fly!

Seekers,

Ready for take-off!

And yes… you can take your horse!

Love

Alice

Ps. If you are wheelchair or bed bound or immobilized in any way or care for those who are, please message me and I can send other instructions for inviting in our Monty Python knight.
